Chrisiania is an autonomous community in central Copenhagen. In the 70’s hippies moved into abandoned military barracks on an island, refused to be governed, pay taxes, or recognize the Danish government. One of the main attractions is the open market for marijuana… but if you get outside the main ‘Pusher Street’ it’s a very beautiful utopian community with really interesting cutting-edge eco-huts, next to shacks and camping communities. It’s a refuge for artists, musicians, and anarchists. They continue to fight the police and Danish government today. One of the most appealing aspects is the open attitude where no one fences their property or tries to keep anyone out… all are welcome.
